High Knee

High knee is a footwork skill which is similar to the alternating step, except that we lift our knees up to hip height.

How?

With your chest up, shoulders back and hands in position, turn the rope to jump it once on the spot with both feet together. Then on your second jump, lift up your knee to hip height so that your thigh is parallel with the floor, and land on your other leg. Alternate between each leg for a total count of four jumps. Feet together, left knee up, feet together, right knee up, repeat.


Why?

Footwork is a very good way to build up your coordination and timing whilst still developing your technique in the Open. More than that, the high knee footwork forms the basis of leg crosses, which are a foundational part of rope manipulation.
